9 Runs Short From Another Win

The 2's travelled the long journey to Northwood looking for a hat trick of wins (DK leaving before he finished his breakfast !)

On a very green and uncovered track the skipper won the toss and decided to bowl first

Syed joined Jerry in opening the attack and they both struck early as EB applied good early pressure. With every change of bowling brought about another wicket, as some tight fielding applied more pressure which then resulted in a wicket . Liam then forgot how tall he was and produced a stunning catch over his head that a 6ft person would of been proud of .

As wickets kept tumbling it was a case of could EB wrap the innings up below 100 runs, but sadly the tail for Northwood wagged a little and they managed to scrap their way to 113-9 off 40 overs

On a track which offered something for the bowlers EB produced their best bowling display of the season, the skipper in particular ending with 8 Overs 1 Wicket for 10 runs

Wickets were shared around - Jerry 2, Syed 1, Adam 1, Barm 1, Sri 2 , Jaco 1 and a run out (Liam)

So 114 runs to win, and as such with a low total they can often be very tricky

Sadly things didn't start well as Syed was run out, and then after looking very solid Marc guided a catch into gully's hands. Fear not thou as EB had a very long batting line up (Or at least on paper) as then the game swung well and truly in Northwood's favour as after Liam was bowled , both DK and George fell first ball - EB 36-5 and in a world of trouble

Now most teams would go full defence mode, but while you have Jaco at the crease the word defensive doesn't get mentioned that much. Jaco went full bazz ball mode dispatching the bowlers everywhere, over the sightscreen rather than through it ! While at the other end the skipper was digging in and trying to rotate the strike. Jaco sadly fell for one big shot to many for 43, and after Sri and the skipper (20) both departed it was left to the EB tail to wag. And while Neil, Jerry and Barm tried sadly it was to little to late as EB were all out for 104

A heartbreak loss of 9 runs. After bowling like heroes , it was a case of then throwing it away with the bat it was felt

Still some good points taken off a team 2nd in the league, and another lesson learnt for this developing team

Thanks as always to Pumps for umpiring , and for Zara and Jamal for watching
